Who is included within the fourth degree of kinship?
The degree of kinship tells us how closely related two people are in a family. It’s based on how many generations are between them.
For example:
- If you’re looking at the first degree of kinship, that includes your parents and your children. They’re very close to you in your family tree.
- But if you’re looking at the fourth degree of kinship, that includes people like your great-great-grandparents or great-great-grandchildren. It also includes your first cousins, who are the children of your parents’ siblings. These people are further away from you in your family tree.
